How does meal scan work?
Open the app, tap + on Today, then Scan a meal. Snap a photo of your plate and SquadAI lists the foods it sees, each with an amount and its calories. Switch off anything that wasn't on your plate, pick the meal (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner / Snack) and how much of the plate you ate, then Log.
Photo estimates are quick but not perfect. If the scan read a food wrong, tap Change on it and pick the right one from the food catalog, or set anywhere from half to double the amount it saw. Missed something? Search foods, under "Anything else with this meal?", adds it to the same plate.
Your diary keeps what the scan first read next to what you chose, so anyone who can see your diary, such as your coach, sees the same note you do (for example "Scanned as sour cream" beside the Greek yogurt you picked). Your squad's leaders see the photo itself only if you've turned on meal photos for that squad (see "Who can see my meal photos?"). For packaged foods, the barcode scanner is still the most precise.
What is a squad?
A squad is any group on SquadFuel — friends, family, a team, or a coached program. Every squad works the same way: a feed, a leaderboard, and challenges, with one or more leaders (a coach or captain).
Start one from the app with friends, or run a full program from the web at coach.squadfuel.fit — it's the same squad either way, and it can grow from a friends group into a multi-team program without starting over.
How are ties broken?
On your squad's boards (This week and All-time) the order is: points, then more full days (3 different meals logged on a day), then more days logged, then more days in a row, then more days running (days logged in a row up to today, earlier weeks included), then whoever got there first (not on All-time), then more protein days (3 different meals with 15 g of protein or more each, the same 15 g for everyone), then, on This week only, more full days in the last 4 weeks (full days in the 28 days up to today). Level on all of it means a shared place.
Days running count back from today: any day you logged something keeps the run going, and a day with nothing logged ends it. Today isn't over, so it doesn't end your run: until you log something today, your run counts up to yesterday, and today joins it once you log. When it splits a tie, the board shows how many days running each of you has logged, unless either of you has turned off My streaks. Challenges use the same order without that step, because only days inside a challenge count, and skip the step that is their own score.
A Protein days challenge adds one last step: more days at the protein target you'd saved when the challenge started (counted as at least 45 g). The board never shows anyone else your target or how many days you met it (your squad leaders already see your targets, as before). If you or anyone you're tied with hadn't saved one, that step treats the tie as level. If you joined the challenge after it started, there's no target for you in it, even one you'd saved before, so ties you're in skip that step. That step only decides who is shown first, never points: if it splits a tie for 1st, everyone in that tie still gets the +100. Level on all of it means a shared place.
Who can see my food diary?
When you join a squad, your food diary — everything you log — is shared with that squad's leaders by default (you'll see this before you join). You can turn it off for any squad, at any time, in Profile → Privacy & sharing. Each squad is separate: a leader sees your diary if you share it in any squad they lead (so someone who leads more than one of your squads, like the club's owner, sees it if you share it in any of them), and otherwise sees only that it's private, never what's in it (in a Protein days challenge they still see how many protein days you had, never grams or what you ate; see "How are ties broken?").
Teammates never see your diary. Squad feed posts are separate — you choose every post you share. If you're under 18, your diary starts private in a squad led only by people under 18; in a squad with an adult leader it's shared by default, like everyone's, and you can turn it off.
Who can see my meal photos?
Only the leaders of a squad you've turned meal photos on for: your coaches in a coached squad (including its staff and the club's owner), or your captain or squad leaders in a squad another athlete started. Teammates never see them, unless you post one to your squad's feed yourself. Meal photos are off until you turn them on, and they only work in a squad where your diary is shared. Each squad has its own switch: turning it off in one squad doesn't hide your photos from another squad where it's on, and someone who leads more than one of your squads, like the club's owner, sees a photo if it was kept for any of those squads and meal photos are still on there.
After you log a meal in a squad someone else leads, the app asks you once what to share. If you're 18 or older, meal photos and your plan start switched on: tap Done to keep them, or switch either off first. Done sets meal photos for that squad only. If you're under 18, or we don't have your date of birth, they start off unless you'd already turned them on. Not now changes nothing.
Each photo is kept for 7 days, then deleted. Your club may have a different window; the app shows it next to the switch. Turning meal photos off in a squad hides them from that squad's leaders within minutes, and no photo is kept for that squad while it's off. Turn it back on and they can see the photos you shared within that window again. Leaving a squad, or being removed from it, deletes the photos kept only for that squad (a photo also kept for another squad you're still in stays for that squad only). A photo you posted to the squad feed stays with the post until the post is deleted. You can change this anytime in Profile → Privacy & sharing.
What can people in my squads see on my profile?
Anyone in one of your squads can open your profile; nobody outside your squads can. It shows your name, @handle, photo, sport, badges, league standing and your recent meal and recipe posts from any of your squads, with their photos. Your goal and streak show too, unless you turn them off. Your plan (your calorie and macro targets, the micronutrients you track, carb cycling, fasting window and diet style) shows only if you switch it on.
Turn your goal, streak or plan on or off anytime in Profile → Privacy & sharing. Those switches cover what people in your squads see in the app — your profile, and your goal progress and streak on the squad's boards — not the coach portal: your squad's leaders still see your goal, targets, streak and how consistently you log in the coach portal, and in a Protein days challenge how many protein days you had (never grams or what you ate), even if your diary is private.
What are cheers?
A cheer is a one-tap way to back a teammate. On Today you'll see moments from people in your squads — a full day banked, a new teammate joining, a challenge win, 1st place on the board this week — each with a Cheer button. They get a notification ("Casey cheered your full day") and can say thanks back.
Only people in your squads can see or cheer your moments, and only you see who cheered you. Your full days show up as moments only while My streaks is on (Profile → Privacy & sharing). To stop cheer notifications, turn off squad activity in Profile → Notifications.
Who can see my email?
You decide whether the people who run your squads (coaches, captains, staff, and the club's owner) can see the email you sign in with on your page in the coach portal, so they can help with your account. Use Show my email to squad leaders in Profile → Privacy & sharing; one switch covers all your squads, and you can change it any time. If your date of birth showed you were 18 or older when you made your account, it's on unless you turn it off. Otherwise (if you were under 18, or your account was made before we asked for a date of birth) it starts off and stays off until you turn it on yourself — turning 18 doesn't turn it on. Either way, a leader whose date of birth doesn't show they're 18 or older never sees your email on that page (that includes a leader whose date of birth we don't have), and if we don't have your date of birth, no leader sees it there. Don't see the switch? Update SquadFuel from the App Store.
If you chose Hide My Email with Sign in with Apple, leaders never see the relay address, whatever the switch says — in the app it shows "Hidden by Apple". Leaders always see how you sign in — with email, with Apple, or both — and making your diary private doesn't change any of this. Teammates never see your email.
If you're a coach or captain yourself, it works differently: everyone who helps run a squad in your club in the coach portal can see the email you sign in with, whatever your age or theirs — even a Hide My Email address — and the switch doesn't change that.
How do I create a squad?
From the app: Squad → Start a squad. You'll get an invite link to share with friends or teammates. Coaches running multiple shifts can manage everything on the web at coach.squadfuel.fit.
How do I join a squad?
Tap the invite link your captain or coach shared — it opens the app to the join screen. Or open the app and tap Squad → Join a squad.
Can I leave a squad?
Yes. Open the squad and tap Leave. If you created the squad, you can't leave (you'd orphan it); for v1, contact us to delete or transfer ownership.
Any meal photos kept only for that squad are deleted (a photo also kept for another squad you're still in stays for that squad only). Your posts in that squad's feed, and their photos, stay after you leave; delete any you want gone before you leave.
What is the SquadFuel League?
The SquadFuel League is your monthly standing across all of SquadFuel. It's separate from your squads: it doesn't depend on which squad or club you're in, and you have one even if you aren't in a squad. Each month starts fresh on the 1st, in your own time zone, and you climb five tiers that mean the same thing for everyone: Bronze, then Silver at 500 points, Gold at 1,100, Platinum at 1,700 and Diamond at 2,200.
You earn points three ways. Each day you log is worth up to 100 points: a full day (3 different meals logged) earns all 100, and fewer meals earn part. When someone joins on your invite you both get +100, and up to 3 invites a month count toward your League. Winning a squad challenge is +100.
The League shows only anonymous figures across all of SquadFuel, such as how many athletes are at each tier and your own "Top 20% on SquadFuel" line: counts and percentages, and no other person is ever named. Demo accounts are never counted.
How do I change my macro targets?
Plan tab → Edit targets. Set your calories, protein, carbs, fat, and micronutrients. Tap Rebuild with AI if you want SquadAI to set them based on your goal.
What is AI Meal Prep?
A weekly meal plan built from your meal schedule and macro targets. Plan → AI Assisted Meal Prep. You get a per-day plan plus a weekly shopping list. Rebuild regenerates whenever you change targets or foods.
I didn't get my verification code
Check your spam folder first — it sometimes lands there on the first email from a new sender. If it's not there, tap Resend code on the verification screen (there's a 60-second cooldown between sends).
Still nothing after a couple of minutes? Make sure you used the right email at signup. Tap Cancel and try again to start over with the correct address.
My verification code expired
Codes expire after 15 minutes for security. Tap Resend code on the verification screen — you'll get a fresh one. The old one stops working as soon as you request a new one.
If you've entered the wrong code 5 times, the current code is locked too. Resend gets you back in.
I forgot my password — how do I reset it?
On the log-in screen, tap Forgot password?. We'll email you a reset link that expires in 1 hour.
If you signed up with Sign in with Apple, you don't have a password — open the app and tap Sign in with Apple with the same Apple ID you signed up with.
How do I delete my account?
Profile → Danger Zone → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account and all your data (food logs, meal photos, plan, squads). It can't be undone.
If you only want to clear your data but keep the account, use Delete all data above it.
How do I turn notifications on or off?
In the app: Profile → Notifications. There are separate toggles for meal reminders, weekly recap, squad activity, challenges, and coach messages. You can also turn off all notifications in your iPhone Settings → SquadFuel → Notifications.
Why isn't my meal showing up in today's totals?
The most common cause is timezone. Day buckets are based on your account's timezone. The app refreshes your timezone whenever you log in, so if you've recently moved or the totals look off, sign out and back in to sync.
